The DAAD In-Country/In-Region Masters & PhD Scholarships are funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). This initiative targets university staff and addresses the growing need for highly skilled professionals in the public sector.
The program aims to bolster higher education systems in Sub-Saharan Africa, equipping them to contribute to sustainable development. Scholarships are awarded to students pursuing development-related Master’s or PhD degrees, particularly those planning a career in teaching or research at higher education institutions within Sub-Saharan Africa.

Scholarship Details
- Type of Scholarship: Masters and PhD
- Eligibility:
- Open to graduates and postgraduates from Sub-Saharan Africa.
- Applicants for Master’s programs must hold a first academic degree, while those seeking PhD scholarships must have a Master’s degree.
- Scholarships are available for studies in the applicant’s home country (in Country) or another Sub-Saharan African country (in Region).
- Female candidates and applicants from underprivileged regions or groups are strongly encouraged to apply.
