What is the Child Benefit Ontario Amount for 2024?
The amount families receive under the OCB depends on their net income and the number of children under their care. The maximum yearly payment per eligible child is $1,607, with a monthly maximum of $133.91.
An “eligible child” is a child under 18 under the applicant’s care. Typically, the OCB is combined with the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), and both are disbursed as a single monthly payment. Families with an Adjusted Family Net Income (AFNI) above $24,542 may still qualify for partial OCB payments.
How to Apply for Child Benefit Ontario?
You do not need a separate application for OCB. By applying for the Canada Child Benefit (CCB), you are automatically considered for the OCB. Eligible families will receive tax-free payments from CCB and OCB.
Applications for the CCB, which also covers the OCB, can be made through the CRA My Account portal or by submitting a paper application via mail. It is essential to review the eligibility criteria for the CCB to ensure you receive both benefits.
Eligibility for 2024
In addition to meeting the eligibility criteria for the CCB, applicants for the OCB must:
- Be residents of Ontario.
- Be the primary caregiver for children under 18 years old.
- They have filed their income tax return.
- Have their children registered for the CCB?
- Have a net family income below the specified threshold.
Filing taxes is mandatory for both CCB and OCB eligibility. Families receiving these benefits must maintain their eligibility by keeping their information updated, including any changes in address, banking information, or living circumstances.
