Key Responsibilities

As a SAPS Security Officer, your duties will include:

  • Access Control: Enforcing security protocols according to the Control of Access to Public Premises and Vehicles Act (Act No. 53 of 1985), ensuring the identification of employees, visitors, and contractors.
  • Visitor Management: Registering visitors, issuing control cards, and ensuring adherence to entry regulations.
  • Premises Patrol: Regularly patrolling designated areas to maintain security.
  • Vehicle and Equipment Protection: Securing vehicles and equipment from theft or damage.
  • Inspections: Monitoring suppliers and inspecting incoming items for security risks.
  • Reporting: Check security equipment regularly and report deficiencies to supervisors.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for these positions, candidates must meet the following requirements:

  • South African Citizenship: Valid identification as a South African citizen is mandatory.
  • Language Proficiency: At least two official South African languages, including English.
  • Security Competence: Demonstrated ability to perform security tasks effectively.
  • Clean Criminal Record: Candidates must have no prior convictions or pending criminal cases.
  • Vetting Process: Applicants must pass thorough security vetting, including fingerprinting and background checks.

Required Qualifications:

  • Senior Certificate (Grade 12) or National Certificate (Vocational) listed on the National Learner Record Database at NQF Level 4.
  • PSIRA Registration: Registration with the Private Security Industry Regulatory Authority (PSIRA) is required.
  • Grade C Security Certificate: A minimum Grade C security certificate is essential, though higher qualifications will be beneficial.
  • Firearm Competency: Applicants must be fit to possess a firearm and willing to undergo firearm competency training.

Additional Qualifications:

  • A Degree or Diploma in Security or a related field will enhance your application.
  • A valid driver’s license for light motor vehicles or higher is advantageous.
  • Willingness to work shifts and extended hours when required.

Additional Requirements:

  • Security Screening: Comprehensive vetting in line with the Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Act (Act No. 32 of 2007) and the Children’s Act (Act No. 38 of 2005). Candidates listed on the National Register for Sex Offenders or the Child Protection Register will be disqualified.
  • DNA Sampling: Recruits must provide a buccal DNA sample for forensic profiling as required by the Criminal Law (Forensic Procedures) Amendment Act (Act No. 37 of 2013).
