The recent heavy snowfall has resulted in significant disturbances, particularly on the N3 toll route and other local roads. The icy conditions left numerous drivers, including truck drivers and bus travelers, stranded. Regrettably, the extreme weather contributed to some fatalities, underscoring the seriousness of the circumstances. More Snowfall Predicted for the Drakensberg

SAWS has also forecasted light snowfall over the Drakensberg mountain range for the upcoming weekend. Forecasters indicate that a notable weather shift will occur across South Africa, with cooler temperatures expected across the escarpment regions. These cold conditions are anticipated to affect areas from the Western Cape to southern KwaZulu-Natal.

The cooling trend is set to Start in the Western Cape on Sunday, September 29, 2024, with a significant drop in daytime temperatures. By Monday, September 30, 2024, these cold conditions will spread to the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu-Natal.

The South Coast should also prepare for strong winds and large ocean swells, with rainfall reaching approximately 30 mm between September 29 and October 1. Light snowfall is also expected in elevated Northern Cape, Eastern Cape, Western Cape and southern KwaZulu-Natal areas.
