Canada Extra GST Payment 2024
In 2024, the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) will offer an extra GST payment to Canadian taxpayers who have completed and submitted their income tax returns. This additional financial assistance aims to ease the economic burden on individuals with limited incomes. The payment amount will be determined based on the recipient’s net income and the number of dependents.
Qualified single taxpayers can expect to receive $496 as part of this supplemental payment, while married or joint filers may be eligible for $650. What Is an Extra GST?
The CRA has introduced the Extra GST Payment, a one-time grocery rebate, to assist Canadian families and individuals manage the escalating cost of living. This supplemental payment aims to alleviate the impact of inflation and the increasing goods expenses on people. GST is calculated based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and encompasses various taxes, such as income and property tax.
In Canada, goods and services are subjected to various taxes, including GST. As of January 2024, the federal government has implemented a 9% increase in the GST. To qualify for this additional support, recipients must file their GST returns, and the payment is exempt from taxes.
Extra GST Payment Amount 2024
The GST Payment amount is determined based on a household’s adjusted net income and the number of dependents under 18. Single individuals who meet the requirements will receive $496, while married or common-law couples will receive $650. Additionally, an extra $171 is provided for each child under 18.
If a family’s annual net income exceeds $35,000, the base amount will be reduced by 2% for every dollar above the threshold. This means that a higher income results in a smaller GST payment. It’s important to note that payment amounts can vary by province, as the federal government adjusts GST payments to accommodate regional differences.
